She also surprised and amused her audience at the third annual human rights mass wedding with some rather personal insights into her marriage, including a dirty secret about the president himself.
"The president's strategy in dealing with political events is to create conflict, seek a compromise and make progress," Wu told 37 newlywed couples after serving as witness to their marriage at the Juming Museum.
"I think that the strategy has been practiced successfully in our married life, " she said.
"Married life is totally different from simply being involved in a romantic relationship," Wu said.
She said the two parties to a marriage, "don't truly get to know each other until they are married."
"Husbands and wives always argue because of various pres-sures, including those brought by work," she said. "They need to face those conflicts, then try to compromise, which is the only way to ensure that your relations constantly improve."
"Before our wedding, I had no idea that Chen was a dirty guy. He didn't like to wash his hair," Wu said.
"At the same time, he didn't know that I had a bad temper, even though many of his friends had warned him," she added.
"With my strict training over the past two decades, the president has made much progress in improving his personal hygiene," she said. "And I have tried to control my emotions."
"That's a good result achieved because of our efforts to tolerate each other's shortcomings and respect each other's personality," she said.
