Koala shows signs of illness
Taipei Zoo managers are anxious about the health of one of its koalas, Action, who has been showing signs of illness in recent days. Action has been sitting and brooding on the ground rather than spending time in the trees. The marsupial is also having digestion problems and X-rays show a larger-than-normal stomach. Zoo authorities are preparing to remove Action from public display. They may also call in a veterinarian from Australia if the koala does not get better soon. Action is one of the zoo's five koalas, all of which came from Australia. Along with the emperor penguins, the koalas have been extremely popular among visitors. The zoo opened a new koala house late last month.

SEF set for shuffle
A senior DPP legislator is likely to become a vice chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) at the foundation's board meeting today, the Chinese-language media said. Chang Chun-hung (張俊宏) had earlier been rumored to be slated to replace chairman Koo Chen-fu (辜振甫). However, yesterday's report said Koo is likely to stay on as chairman. The SEF's board of directors hasn't been reshuffled since the DPP came to power in May 2000. The board is dominated by figures from the pan-blue camp.
