Eugene Chien hails `milestone' Chad building projects

AFP , TAIPEI

The construction of a long bridge and an avenue for Chad has been completed as part of Taipei's efforts to cement ties with the central African country, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Eugene Chien (簡又新) said yesterday.

Chien hailed the two projects as the "milestone of bilateral cooperation" -- the longest bridge in Central Africa and the longest avenue in Africa, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Chien, who arrived in Chad on Saturday, will attend the inauguration of the bridge and the 12km-long avenue today, the statement said.
