Minister seeks dismissal of Taipei City police chief

By Jimmy Chuang  /  STAFF REPORTER

The minister of the interior yesterday told the Legislature's Home and Nations Committee that the ministry would seek the dismissal of the head of Taipei City police sometime after mayoral and city council elections on Dec. 7, although he acknowledged that the final decision would rest with the Taipei Mayor.

"If Wang remains in office, the NPA will propose a new candidate for city police chief to the mayor after the election and let him decide which officer is appropriate for the position," Interior Minister Yu Cheng-hsien (余政憲) said of Taipei City Police Department Commissioner Wang Cho-chiun (王卓鈞).

During the meeting, the KMT Taipei City Councilor Chen Chin-chi's (陳進棋) murder on Nov. 16 was still the focus and Yu was again pressed to answer whether authorities have decided to fire the city police chief.

Yu explained that there are procedures to follow even though the decision has already been made to remove Wang Cho-chiun.
