Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (°¨^¤E) yesterday encouraged the city's taxi drivers to improve their English conversation ability.
Ma was speaking at a seminar of drivers who have passed the Taipei City Government-organized English proficiency tests for taxi drivers.
Speaking in English to the mayor, some of them suggested that a taxi stop be reserved at Sungshan Airport and at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport exclusively for drivers who have passed English proficiency tests.
Ma said he thought that the proposal was feasible.
"I will convey the idea to relevant central government authorities for implementation," he told them.
