A group of TSU legislators arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for a weeklong visit.
Taiwan's representative to Moscow, King Shu-chi (ª÷¾ð°ò), and deputy representative Chan Hsiu-ying (¸â¨q¿o) welcomed the legislators at Moscow's airport.
The group of five TSU legislators and two party officials is led by Legislator Su Ying-gue (Ĭ¬Õ¶Q). The group's members said they hoped to learn more about the economic and political situation in Russia.
Meanwhile, another group of legislators will visit Poland and Germany in the middle of this month to promote substantive relations between Taiwan and the two European countries.
A seven-member delegation led by DPP Legislator You Ching (¤×²M) will meet with Polish and German parliamentarians and government officials to discuss measures to boost bilateral exchanges and cooperation.
During their stay in Germany, You said, the delegation will exchange views with senior officials of the major political parties on Germany's "single-seat, two-ballot" parliamentary electoral system in preparation for pushing legislative reform in Taiwan.
The mission will also take advantage of their trip to look into the development of the biotechnology, aerospace and information-technology industries in the two countries, You said.
Noting that there has been ethical debate over embryo stem-cell research and its applications, You said he hopes to gain a better understanding of Germany's regulations in this area during the visit.
While Britain permits embryo stem-cell imports and applications for certain stated purposes, Germany completely bans such imports. Taiwan has yet to forge a comprehensive legal framework to regulate stem-cell research.
