Lai Ching-mei (賴清美) says her comments were misrepresented in a recent magazine report in which she accused Examination Yuan President Yao Chia-wen (姚嘉文) of having extra-marital affairs.
The China Times Weekly report quotes Lai, a former aide to Yao's wife, as saying she possessed toilet paper evidence to prove his extra-marital affairs.
Lai yesterday issued a statement through the DPP's Changhua County branch office, saying that "there was a wide gap" between what she told the magazine and what was reported.
She denied ever talking to the China Times Weekly about any sex allegations or asking for money from Yao.
The report quotes Yao denying Lai's allegations, saying she was attempting to extort money from him so she could pay back her debts.
The report's publication coincided with Yao's swearing-in ceremony as Examination Yuan president on Tuesday.
Lai's published statement yesterday also expressed gratitude for past favors from Yao and his wife -- DPP legislator Chou Ching-yu (
According to Lai Yi-sung (
Chou yesterday described the whole event as a melodrama and suggested that somebody was using the false accusations as part of a political conspiracy against her husband.
