Cyber champion to meet his rival

STAFF WRITER

Taiwan's world cyber-game champion, Tseng Jeng-cheng (曾政承), is scheduled to face a challenge from his South Korean rival Kang Byung-geon this weekend in Taipei. Tseng defeated Kang in last December's World Cyber Games (WCG) final of Age of Empires in Seoul.

An international exhibition for online strategy games was co-organized by Internet service provider Hinet (中華電信) and software publishing company Unalis (松崗科技).

The exhibition will be held Saturday and Sunday. "Tseng The Terrible" will face the wrath of Kang during Sunday's Age of Empires event.

Many WCG medal-winners will also play against top Taiwanese players.

Among the leading players invited to participate are Guillaume Patry from Canada, Grospellier Bertrand from France and Lena Lee and Kang from South Korea.

Patry is the world-record holder in StarCraft and he is now a professional cyber-gamer in South Korea.

Bertrand was the last WCG's silver medalist in StarCraft.

Lee is ranked as the No.1 female player of StarCraft in South Korea, while Kang is the top South Korean player and used to be the world champion in Age of Empires before Tseng dethroned him.

Tseng and Kang's upcoming cyber-conflict is expected to be the highlight of the weekend event.

In Saturday's StarCraft event, Patry will deploy in space against Taiwan's top StarCraft strategist, who is only known by his game ID -- "911." Bertrand will seek to colonize more planets than Taiwan's No.2 StarCraft player, Chang Po-chi (張柏齊). Lena Lee is scheduled to play against a Taiwanese female player , who is only known by her game ID -- "SSQ."
