The Government Information Office (GIO) representative to Hong Kong arrived in the territory Saturday to attend a cultural activity.

This is the first time that Ping Lu (平路) has been able to set foot in Hong Kong since she was formally appointed head of the Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Center, which represents the GIO in the former British colony, early this year.

Ping Lu, who is still waiting for a working visa from the Hong Kong government, said she takes great pleasure in being able to visit the territory to take part in a cultural exchange program.

"I feel a great deal of goodwill from the Hong Kong side after securing a visa for the current visit," Ping Lu said.

Lu added that she looks forward to seeing more cultural exchanges between Taiwan and Hong Kong to minimize misunderstanding and boost trust.

Asked when she might assume her Hong Kong post, Ping Lu said she is "100 percent" optimistic about the prospect of obtaining a working visa from relevant Hong Kong authorities in the near future. "Of course, I hope to be able to work here as early as possible," she added.

Some local media reports said Hong Kong may issue Ping Lu a working visa soon.

She will attend a promotional program for introducing Chinese-language literary books during her two-or-three-day stay here.
