Taipei City Police Headquarters' Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) said yesterday that prosecutors, police and military police worked together to arrest the owner of a sex-VCD pirating company and discovered nearly 100,000 pirated pornographic VCDs.

The police said that Taipei Prosecutor Chen Chung-yen (陳重言) led a team of police officers and investigators to raid Wu Chan-tang's (吳展堂) Olay Co (歐樂), which produces illegal Japanese pornographic VCDs.

The team arrived at the Neihu office with a search warrant on Friday night and discovered the VCDs at the company's factory in Yingko, Taipei County. Officers then arrested Wu.

During the raid, military police sent 30 soldiers and two trucks to help move the VCDs from the factory to the CIC's office in Taipei.

According to the CIC, the VCD raid surpassed both the record for an illegal VCD seizure and the amount of pornographic VCDs confiscated by police.

In the meantime, CIC's Second Division Captain Tsai Hsiang-chun (蔡祥春) said that Wu tried to defend himself after he was arrested.

"He told us that the company was originally called Interactive and that he had just bought the company not too long ago," Tsai said. "He said that all the pornographic VCDs were actually the products of the previous company. He said his new company didn't produce any pornographic VCDs and he was trying to buy the pornographic VCDs from the previous company so he could destroy them."

The CIC also said that they discovered a state-of-the-art VCD duplicating machine at Wu's Yingko factory. "With that machine, it would only take Wu about 12 hours to produce another 100,000 illegal pirated VCDs," Tsai added.
