Foreign guests to get a glimpse of the `true Taiwan'

CNA , TAINAN COUNTY

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is co-sponsoring a workshop on tourism and community development later this week in the south to enable a group of foreign politicians and opinion leaders to familiarize themselves with Taiwan.

The foreign guests, who hail from 31 countries and areas around the world, will take part in the eight-day workshop in Tainan County to gain first-hand knowledge of Taiwan by making field trips in the area, said Suen Gow-Shuang (孫國祥), a division chief of the International Cooperation and Development Fund, a MOFA offshoot.

The ICDF is cooperating with the Tainan County Government to arrange the field trips in order to enable the foreign guests to see for themselves the "true face of Taiwan," Sun said.

The field trips will take the participants to a water lily plantation in Paiho (白河), a landlocked salt-water lake in Chiku (七股), a dragon boat race in Chiangchun Port (將軍港), a wild pheasant sanctuary in Kuantien (官田) and an orchid plantation in Houpi (後壁), said Tainan County Magistrate Su Huan-chih (蘇煥智).
