Hong Kong singer arrested for having ecstasy tablets at Taipei nightclub

By Jimmy Chuang  /  STAFF REPORTER

Police arrested Hong Kong entertainer William So (蘇永康) yesterday at a Taipei dance club, alleging that the Mandopop and Cantopop singer was in possession of -- and had taken -- illegal drugs.

Police arrested So yesterday morning at Texound, a dance club located on Nanking E Road, along with an entourage of 11 friends and colleagues.

After police arrived at the dance club at 2am to search the premises, they reportedly found So unconscious on a sofa.

Police suspected that So and his friends had taken drugs.

According to police, a search of So turned up four and a half ecstasy pills, but the singer denied they were his. He also said that he hadn't taken any drugs that evening.

"So said he went to Room 18 with another five friends, but they decided to go to Texound afterwards at the invitation of another friend," a police officer said.

"He told us that he was drunk before he went to Texound. He said he didn't take any drugs and had no idea where the pills came from."

Room 18 is a dance club located at Warner Village in Taipei.

Police said that they conducted a breath test on So but the results indicated he wasn't intoxicated.

"We'll figure out whether he took the ecstasy pills or not," the police officer said.
