Control Yuan says no to proposal to produce a TV ad

By Lin Miao-Jung  /  STAFF REPORTER

At an informal meeting yesterday, Control Yuan members rejected a proposal to produce a TV commercial to promote the body, despite their concerns that there is insufficient awareness of the Control Yuan and its functions.

The proposal, submitted by the body's public relations department, argued that "in order to enhance the understanding and support of the public, this institution should make good use of the power of electronic media in the information age." It added that the body should do so by "making a non-profit TV commercial to illustrate the work that the institution does."

Chang Yi (張義), the head of the body's public-relations section, wanted to produce a TV advertisement to promote the institution ever since he was appointed to the post two years ago, he said.

"We should have an effective means of letting the public know how to use the resources of the Control Yuan," he said.
