Suspicious aside, WHO bid to go on

China has vehemently opposed Taiwan's WHO bid, saying it's a move toward Taiwanese independence.

Membership in the WHO is limited to sovereign states, while statehood is not required to gain WHO observer status. The WHO has given observer status to the Vatican, Liechtenstein, the Palestinian Authority, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Rotary International and Malta.
