`Big-footed pervert' takes his last peek up women's skirts

Police have arrested a man dubbed the "big-footed pervert" after they allegedly caught him using a small hidden camera in his basketball sneakers to peek up the skirts of unsuspecting women.

The arrest of 37-year-old Yang Teh-feng could feed growing paranoia about the use of hidden cameras. The fear has been building since former politician Chu Mei-feng (璩美鳳) was secretly filmed sleeping with her married lover. The footage was later distributed in the Scoop Weekly tabloid magazine.

Yesterday, TVBS cable news showed Yang handcuffed and slumped in a chair as police showed how he stuffed a small handheld camera into his oversized shoe and cut a hole big enough for the lens to peer upward.

Yang was originally suspected of being a pickpocket when he was seen tailing women at a fish market in Hsinchu City. But after security at the market questioned him, they discovered the camera in his shoe, a local Chinese-language daily said.
