DPP members split over leadership plan

By Ko Shu-ling  /  STAFF REPORTER

Pros and cons

The chief executive of the DPP legislative caucus, Wang Tuoh (王拓) of the Justice Alliance faction, said that there are advantages and disadvantages to having the president assume the party chairmanship.

"Two of the biggest advantages are that there may be less friction between the government and the party in terms of decision-making; in addition, the president may help expedite the party's transformation and internal reforms," Wang said.

However, Wang said he is worried that the party might repeat the mistakes of the KMT when it was in power.

"I'd really hate to see the party deteriorate into some blood-sucking political monster which puts the party's interest before the interest of the country and the public," he said.
