The Warsaw (Poland) Trade Office in Taiwan, established back in 1995, is headed by Tomasz Nowacki, chief representative and director general. Among the many functions and services offered by The Warsaw Trade Office is full assistance for Polish citizens living in Taiwan, the promotion of Polish agricultural products, two-way trade between Taiwan and Poland, and encouraging educational and cultural exchange and assistance in issuing of visas to Taiwan businessmen and tourists.
A seasoned diplomat, Nowacki, who is fluent in five languages (Polish, English, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and French) assumed the post of chief representative and director general of the Warsaw (Poland) Trade Office in Taiwan in 1999. Prior to this, he was posted in Shanghai, China, as consulate general for seven years, in Moscow, Russia, for three years, and seven years in Beijing, China. He joined the Polish foreign service in 1979 and is a graduate of Warsaw University, majoring in Sinology, particularly in classical and modern history of China.
Nowacki said the export of Polish products is becoming an important element of business activity that promotes production development and modernization.
Trade exchange between Taiwan and Poland is growing steadily, as evidenced by the growth of export volume since 1999.
Trade diversification has enabled Poland to export jewelry (amber), crystal glasses and communication equipment in addition to traditional export products such as steel, chemicals, and raw materials.
Over 60 Polish firms, the largest representation, joined in last month's Eurogate 2001: New European Products and Travel Fair, held at the Taipei World Trade Center exhibition hall. The Polish exhibitors included a wide range of fields such as aerospace, food, jewelry, chemical products and investments.
Director Tomasz Wrzosinski, head of commercial division of the office, can provide help for Taiwanese investors who intend to do business with Polish partners.
Cultural exchange is becoming more intensive. Last year, four Polish folk groups conducted performances around Taiwan. There has been great interest from Taiwan audiences towards Polish modern theater.
This year, three groups including the Polish Philharmonic Chamber have scheduled programs in Taiwan. From Taiwan, the Chinese opera and a Hualien aboriginal group have been well received by Polish audiences.
In scientific exchange, eight Polish students are currently studying in Taiwan, taking up Mandarin language courses, and there also Taiwan students studying Polish.
Tourism to Poland is growing every year. Each year about 10,000 Taiwanese tourists visit Poland, famous for its beautiful landscapes and unspoilt nature.
Poland has 22 national parks and 122 landscape parks, dozens of nature reserves and thousands of nature monuments. All forms of tourism, rest and recreation can be experienced in Poland. It is an ideal destination for those who wish to experience their life's adventure.
Nowacki said tourists can plan a winter holiday skiing in the Alps and the Pyrenees, discover the beauty of rafting on white-water rapids, admire the breathtaking foliage of forests in the autumn, enjoy wonderful cross-country mountain trails hiking in the Polish mountains, horse-riding, hunting, windsurfing, sailing and even canoeing.
