Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia rallied from a set and 4-1 down on Friday to beat former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone and advance to the semi-finals of the grass-court Aegon Classic.

Hantuchova won 6-7 (6/8), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) to record another upset in a rainy week at the Wimbledon warm-up tournament in Birmingham.

Donna Vekic, a 16-year-old Croat, routed third-seeded Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-1, while another Slovak, Magdalena Rybarikova, eased past Madison Keys of the US 6-3, 6-0.

Fifth-seeded Sabine Lisicki, the 2011 Wimbledon finalist, was level with American Alison Riske at 6-7 (2/7), 6-2, 2-2 in the other quarter-final later on Friday before play was suspended because of darkness.

The scheduled doubles match pitting fourth seeded pair Hantuchova and Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei against Kimiko Date-Krumm of Japan and Arantxa Parra Santonja of Spain was postponed.

However, in one of the two doubles matches that were played Mona Barthel of Germany and Kristina Mladenovic of France beat top-seeded US pair Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears 2-6, 7-5, 10-6.

In the other showdown, Australians Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua, the No. 3 seeds, defeated Alla Kudryavtseva of Russia and Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 7-6 (7/0), 4-6, 10-5.
