Six teams gathered in Chiayi City yesterday for the annual Cricket Sixes organized by Taiwan’s Chinese Cricket Development Organization.
Pakistan Cricket Club Taipei (PCCT) led the pack through group play winning all five of their matches. Rehan Naeem starred with the bat, only being dismissed once all day.
They faced the hosts, Kaohsiung’s Daredevils, in the best match of the day. PCCT put on 72-2 in their five overs, Mujahid Muhammad blazing 22 from nine deliveries and Shoaib Meer finishing the innings with six, four, four and six.
Mahroof Hussain replied in kind with three straight driven sixes, but with 15 required, up stepped Naeem to bowl a seven-run final over to seal the match. The Daredevils (two wins) finished the day in fifth place.
The Kaohsiung’s Stars scored 24 runs off the final over to beat the Scunners and ended the day second behind PCCT with three wins. The Scunners ended the day without a win.
Formosa Cricket Club benefitted from Anthony Liu’s 28 not out in their final match against the Wildfire Geckos to win by three runs.
Today sees the finals, with all teams still in contention. FCC will play the Stars in one semi-final while PCCT will play the best of the three bottom placed teams.
There are also a couple of exhibition matches, including the Darling Daredevils against Chang Jung Christian University in Taiwan’s first women’s competition.
