After squandering first-half leads as large as 10 points, Bank of Taiwan took advantage of a strong third quarter and held on to defeat Taiwan Beer 90-82 at the Taipei Municipal Gymnasium last night for their 10th win of the season.

Joseph Taylor had a big day with a game-high 24 points to lead the Financial Wizards past the Brew Crew. Both clubs desperately needed a win to gain back their confidence after both were eliminated from the postseason last week.

Also starring for the Bankers was guard Chang Bo-sheng, who lit up the scoreboard with 22 points, converting four of five three-point attempts on a night he could hardly miss from long distance.

The Bankers opened the game with a 10-4 run in the first three minutes of play, but quickly lost the edge in the final two minutes of the quarter to the stellar shooting of Taiwan Beer’s Yang Yu-ming. They settled with a 21-all tie at the end of the first.

A 9-3 run by the Bankers would give them another six-point cushion to start the second quarter.

However, the men in the green fought back with a 10-4 run to keep Bank of Taiwan’s lead at one in a 43-42 game.

Three straight buckets by Byron Allen midway through the third would give Taiwan Beer their biggest lead of the game at eight points as the American big man showed off his inside moves against the Banker’s defense.

However, that was the extent that the three-time champs were in the game as the Bankers promptly regrouped by rolling off a 14-2 run over the final four minutes of play in the third to take a 70-64 lead.

The Bankers would add to their lead by five, with Taylor scoring seven straight at one point, before Taiwan Beer went on an 11-4 run to pull within three of the Bankers.
