Playing nearly the entire game on back-to-back nights with two spectacular showings, Chou Shih-yuan won the nods from the members of the Basketball Writers’ Association to land the coveted Player of the Week honor in the Super Basketball League.

The Yulon Luxgens shooting guard out of Taipei Physical Education College has finally returned to his old form following a long summer of rehabilitation for a season-ending injury. He managed to pick up the scoring slack vacated by teammate Emmanuel Jones, averaging 26 points, six rebounds and three steals over 36.5 minutes per game last weekend to lead his team to a pair of solid victories.

“[Chou] has really stepped up for us on both ends of the floor, which is why I let him play as much as he did over the past two weeks,” Yulon head coach Lin Cheng-ming said earlier this week.

Chou’s timely surge more than covered for the injured Jones’ absence as the Luxgens look to break the .500 mark in win percentage after a rather slow start to the season.

“It’s been a long journey for me trying to come back from the injury, but I’m glad I’ve been able to play better than before with a lot of support from my teammates,” Chou said after learning of his selection for the weekly honor.

Chou and the rest of the Luxgens will have a chance to go over the .500 mark this weekend with three big games against worthy opponents, starting with tonight’s match against Bank of Taiwan, followed by tomorrow’s battle against top-ranked Pure Youth Construction, before Sunday’s showdown with the Taiwan Mobile Cloud Leopards.
