The SBL Player of the Week honor went to a very deserving Lin Yi-hui, who narrowly beat out fellow forward Chen Tzu-wei by a 28-26 margin to win the coveted honor.
The forward out of the National Taiwan Normal University, who has been a steady force for the Dacin Tigers over the years, decided to shift his basketball career up a gear by improving his inside play and rebounding ability. His recent, much-improved instinct for the ball and willingness to attack the basket has resulted not only in more floor time granted by new skipper and former Tigers teammate Hsu Chih-chao, but also the respect of his opponents, making him a legitimate scoring threat in clutch times for the team.
Lin’s game-high 22 points and team-best 10 boards in last Sunday’s showdown against Taiwan Beer was the main reason the Cats were able to fend off the Brew Crew en route to their fourth straight victory.
“It’s an honor to be selected for the [Player of the Week] award, given the number of outstanding players we have in the league. All the credit should go to my teammates and coaches for their support,” Lin said earlier this week upon learning the news.
With Lin and Chen in top form, the Tigers have a chance to stretch their current win streak to a season-high seven in three matches scheduled for this weekend.
Heading the trio of tough battles is tonight’s match against the all-new Taiwan Mobile Cloud Leopards, who raided Taiwan Beer during the off-season with the signing of high-profile acquisitions Wu Dai-hao, Chen Shih-nian, Cheng Ren-wei and Ho Sho-cheng to beef up their lineup.
Should the Tigers take the weekend opener, it will be all downhill from there as tomorrow’s game against Bank of Taiwan and Sunday’s weekend finale versus the Yulon Luxgens are, on paper, relatively easy affairs compared with tonight’s battle.
