Hall-of-famer Annika Sorenstam of Sweden and world No. 1 women’s golfer Yani Tseng are set to compete in a skins game ahead of the “Swinging Skirts” golf tournament early next month, the organizers said on Monday.

Two all-star groups are scheduled to tee off on Dec. 6 at the Miramar Golf and Country Club in Linkou, New Taipei City, and vie for US$100,000 in prize money, half of which will be donated to charity, said the Taiwan Ladies Professional Golf Association (TLPGA), one of the annual event’s organizers.

Pak Se-ri of South Korea and Cristie Kerr of the US have also been lined up to play with Sorenstam and Tseng, while major winners this year Jiyai Shin, Choi Na-yeon and Yoo Sun-young of South Korea and 2010 US Women’s Open champion Paula Creamer of the US make up the other group.

The celebrity charity skins game is followed by a 54-hole invitational played by 95 players over three rounds form Dec. 7 to Dec. 9.

The tournament, which has a total purse of US$1.01 million this year, has become an official leg of both the TLPGA Tour and the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Tour.

Swinging Skirts is a private organization made up of both male and female amateur golfers. Unlike the professionals, its members wear skirts or kilts when they play, and all competitors, caddies and course referees are expected to do the same during the tournament.
