CPBL: Scoring early and often, the President Lions trounced the Sinon Bulls by a huge 14-3 margin at the Taipei Municipal Baseball Stadium in Tienmu on Saturday evening to extend their winning streak to four games.

Tilson Brito homered twice for the second time this year on a perfect 4-for-4 night with seven RBIs to account for half of the Lions’ total runs in the game.

Also starring was staff ace Pan “Du Du” Wei-luen who tossed six innings of two-run ball (only one earned) in his 11th quality start in 13 chances to improve to 8-1 for the season. His league-leading ERA was also lowered to a miniscule 2.09 in the process.

The showdown between Du Du and the Bulls’ Yang Jien-fu, both members of Taiwan’s Olympic national squad, was all-Du Du from the get go as Yang lasted only three-plus innings with eight allowed runs on seven hits and a half-dozen walks to set the Bulls back 0-8.

Even though the Sinon offense put up a run each during the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to crack the goose egg, they were no match for the tenacious Lions attack which piled on six more runs before all was said and done.

WHALES 9, T-REX 5

Lin Jing-chang’s RBI double capped a five-run eighth as the Chinatrust Whales overcame a one-run deficit to beat the dmedia T-Rex 9-5 at the Douliou County Baseball Stadium on Saturday night.

The win not only helped avenge a tough 1-0 Whales loss to dmedia the night before, to salvage a one-game split in the two-game series, but also nipped a four-game losing skid.

The seesaw battle began with the dmedia jumping to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on an infield single by Jose Leon before the Whales answered with two runs of their own two innings later to skip ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third.

Kao Wei’s sacrifice-fly tied the game at 2-all before the two teams traded a pair of runs each in the sixth to make it 4-4.

Hsieh “the Ugly” Jia-shien’s two-out single up the middle gave T-Rex a brief 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for the eventual Whales comeback.

Credited with his fourth win of the year was Whales reliever Liu Yu-chan who tossed a scoreless eighth to prevail over his counterpart Lee Ming-jin, who was responsible for three of the five Whales runs in the decisive eighth over a losing effort.
