Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse joined Marseille on Wednesday on a year-long loan deal with an option for a permanent transfer.

The 24-year-old French international, who broke his leg for the second time in two years against China on June 7, has arrived in Marseille with his family, according to a statement on the team's Web site.

"My choice was always Marseille," said Cisse, who won't be able to play again until October.

Marseille will reportedly pay Liverpool ?8 million (US$15 million) if the transfer becomes permanent. Cisse signed with Liverpool for ?14 million in July 2004 after scoring 70 goals in 128 league games for French club Auxerre. He scored 24 goals in 78 games in all competitions for the Reds.
