Manchester United and Manchester City played out a 0-0 draw in the Premier League on Sunday, while Tottenham Hotspur surged to a big victory at AFC Bournemouth.
Also on Sunday, Juergen Klopp was denied a first victory as Liverpool manager when Sadio Mane scored a late goal to earn Southampton a 1-1 draw at Anfield.
At Old Trafford in Manchester, United went closest to winning against City when substitute Jesse Lingard turned a high ball from Anthony Martial onto the crossbar, before Chris Smalling had a low shot turned around the post by Joe Hart.

The point moved City back to the top of the Premier League standings. Manuel Pellegrini’s side are level with Arsenal, but have a superior goal-difference. United stayed fourth.
“We created more chances, but didn’t finish them and that’s disappointing,” United manager Louis van Gaal said. “You need to win these games for the fans.”
Pellegrini was happy his side avoided defeat, but not pleased with his team’s defensive performance.
“I am satisfied with a point, but I don’t like to play in this way,” Pellegrini said. “It’s important to have a point here, another point in the table, but I don’t think it’s the way the team must play. If you can’t win it, then don’t lose it by not concentrating.”
In Sunday’s late match, Liverpool were denied victory by a late Southampton goal in manager Juergen Klopp’s first Premier League game at Anfield.
Substitute Christian Benteke headed Liverpool into the lead with a towering effort in the 78th minute, but Mane bundled in an equalizer four minutes from the end, before being sent off in stoppage-time for his second booking.
“We knew it would be hard work today, three days after the last game, but we didn’t create enough chances,” Klopp said. “We had our moments and played very good, but in the end you have to score.”
Klopp wants Liverpool to play with more composure.
“We have to be more calm in the situations we create,” Klopp said. “They [the players] are strong, they are skilled, but we are not cool. That is the problem.”
Harry Kane scored a hat-trick as Spurs came from behind to thrash Bournemouth 5-1.
Matt Ritchie put Bournemouth ahead after only 49 seconds, before Kane leveled with a penalty.
Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela scored to put Tottenham comfortably ahead at halftime, before Kane completed his treble in the second half.
Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The

Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
