Giovani dos Santos had a goal and an assist in an impressive Major League Soccer debut, leading the LA Galaxy to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday.
Dos Santos set up captain Robbie Keane’s goal in the 47th minute before the Mexico playmaker scored his first goal in the 64th minute, taking a beautiful pass from Keane and burying his shot past Stefan Frei.
Dos Santos started up front alongside Keane and took corners as the Galaxy (11-7-7) officially unveiled the newest acquisition in their star-studded lineup.

Dos Santos even lived up to the standard set by Steven Gerrard, who also had a goal and an assist in his winning MLS debut last month.
The sellout crowd gave a standing ovation when Dos Santos left in the 69th minute.
With David Beckham watching from a luxury suite, Gyasi Zardes also scored as the Galaxy unleashed the full might of their reloaded roster for the first time.
The defending MLS champions have scored 22 goals in their last five MLS home games, staying in the Western Conference race despite a slow start to the season and continued struggles on the road.
Chad Barrett scored in the opening minute for the Sounders (10-12-2), who competed without any designated players after leaving Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins at home from the rivalry game. Dempsey strained his hamstring in training on Friday, and Martins still is not quite ready to return from a groin injury.
Barrett also left the game with an injured right hamstring immediately after his stunning opening-minute goal. Zardes equalized in the 13th minute with his 25th career MLS goal.
However, the sellout crowd was most eager to see Dos Santos, who wears the No. 10 Galaxy shirt most recently occupied by the retired Landon Donovan.
Dos Santos is likely to play in midfield while coach Bruce Arena figures out the best distribution of his wealth of talent.
The 26-year-old Dos Santos began training with the Galaxy a week ago after arriving from Mexico’s Gold Cup title run.
The two-time World Cup performer spent the past two seasons with Villareal in La Liga after a career that began at Barcelona.
While Dos Santos’ European career was inconsistent, the Galaxy have been chasing him for years, believing his combination of offensive flair and Mexican heritage would be an enormous boost on the field and among Southern California’s enormous Mexican-American population.
When MLS altered its designated player rules to allow a fourth big-ticket addition this summer, the Galaxy swiftly closed a deal to add even more talent to their side — and Dos Santos immediately showed the flair they expect.
Donovan Ricketts made his first home start in three years for the Galaxy, who reacquired the goalkeeper from Orlando City after Jaime Penedo left the club.
US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in
Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. So make sure you come out and support the Beer
Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
The sacred flame for the Paris Olympics was lit yesterday in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the ancient Games, in a ceremony inspired by antiquity and marked by messages of hope amid multiple global crises. “In ancient times, the Olympic Games brought together the Greek city states, even — and in particular — during times of war and conflict,” International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said. “Today, the Olympic Games are the only event that brings the entire world together in peaceful competition. Then as now, the Olympic athletes are sending this powerful message — yes, it is possible to compete fiercely
