Madison Bumgarner homered off Clayton Kershaw and once again outpitched the reigning National League Most Valuable Payer and Cy Young winner as the San Francisco Giants shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers for the third straight day, 4-0 on Thursday.
The Giants outscored the Dodgers 10-0 in sweeping the three-game series.
It was the third time this season that Bumgarner, the current World Series Most Valuable Player, had started against Kershaw — the Giants have won all three.

Bumgarner (5-2) worked around seven hits and two walks in 6-1/3 innings, striking out six.
He improved to 9-3 in his past 13 starts against the Dodgers.
Bumgarner became the first pitcher to homer off Kershaw (2-3). The Giants’ star connected for his seventh career home run, hitting a solo shot into the bleachers in left in the third.
Last year, Bumgarner hit four home runs, including two grand slams. He had managed just one single in 17 at-bats this year going into the game.
METS 5, CARDINALS 0
In New York, Jacob deGrom retired his final 23 batters following a first-inning single and Lucas Duda hit two long homers to nearly the same spot in New York’s victory over St Louis.
In his latest stingy start at Citi Field, deGrom struck out 11 over eight dominant innings. His only blemish was Matt Carpenter’s clean single with one out in the first.
Michael Cuddyer had his first three-hit game of the season and also walked for a perfect day at the plate.
John Mayberry Jr put the slumping Mets lineup on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the fourth.
Besides the single by Carpenter, the lone Cardinals hitter to reach base was Kolten Wong with a two-out single off Jeurys Familia in the ninth. The lack of offense left Jaime Garcia (0-1) little chance to win his first major league start since June last year.
The reigning National League Rookie of the Year, deGrom (5-4) posted his fifth double-digit strikeout game and his first since Sept. 21 last year in Atlanta, Georgia.
He entered with a 1.61 ERA in 15 home games and improved to 10-1 in his past 12 starts at Citi Field.
ORIOLES 5, MARINERS 4
In Baltimore, Maryland, Steve Pearce hit his first career grand slam and J.J. Hardy singled in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning as Baltimore weathered a lengthy rain delay and a comeback by Seattle.
After Pearce connected in the first inning for a 4-0 lead, the Orioles managed only one more hit until Chris Davis led off the eighth with a single off Danny Farquhar (0-3). Davis advanced on a groundout and scored on an awkward slide after Hardy bounced a single up the middle.
Tommy Hunter (1-1) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and Zach Britton got three straight outs for his ninth save.
Although the Mariners rallied from the early deficit, they went three for 15 with runners in scoring position and had 13 left on base.
Playing his first game with the Seattle Mariners after being traded from the Cubs on Tuesday, catcher Welington Castillo drove in a run and scored one.
Thursday’s other results:
‧ Braves 10, Brewers 1
‧ Rays 3, Athletics 0
‧ Tigers 6, Astros 5, 11 innings
‧ Cubs 3, Padres 0
‧ Rangers 3, Red Sox 1
‧ Blue Jays 8, Angels 4
‧ Diamondbacks 7, Marlins 6
‧ Indians 5, White Sox 2
‧ Rockies 7, Phillies 3

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
