Colombia, skippered by their youngest-ever captain, James Rodriguez, on Friday came from behind to beat the US 2-1 in an international friendly in London as France salvaged a 1-1 draw against Albania in Rennes.
The South Americans rallied with two second half goals at Craven Cottage after captain Jozy Altidore had put the US ahead in the 10th minute when he converted from the penalty spot.
The Colombians were without injured Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao, with Aston Villa’s Carlos Sanchez playing alongside 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner Rodriguez, 23, in midfield.

Carlos Bacca equalized on the hour mark, with Teofilo Gutierrez heading in the winner three minutes from time, to leave Colombia riding a three-match winning streak before their trip to Slovenia on Tuesday.
Columbian Coach Jose Pekerman hailed the World Cup quarter-finalists’ battling form.
“This was a hard game against a team that plays well,” he said. Jurgen Klinsmann’s Americans head into their final game of the year against Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday winless after three games, but the German was pleased with their performance against the world number three team.
“We enjoyed a very entertaining game,” Klinsmann said. “The tempo of the game and its intensity was exactly what we needed and what we were looking for. Overall, a tie would have been the fair result.”
In Rennes, Antoine Griezmann saved the day for France after a Mergim Mavraj header five minutes before the break had seen Didier Deschamps’ side trailing in Brittany against 48th-ranked Albania.
The damage could have been worse with both Ermir Lenjani and Elseid Hysaj missing the chance to put the visitors further ahead.
France were without injured midfielder Blaise Matuidi, while Deschamps’ new strike partnership of Alexandre Lacazette and Karim Benzema failed to spark.
Lacazette lacked the form which has seen him become the Ligue 1 top scorer with Lyon, while Real Madrid star Benzema missed a golden opportunity to head home in the 32nd minute.
“It wasn’t simple,” Deschamps said. “It was the first time he [Lacazette] started and he wasn’t completely at ease. [Benzema] was shy when he started like Alex this evening,” he said.
Griezmann came on after 57 minutes and the Atletico Madrid forward found the net in the 73rd minute to avoid a second defeat of the year going back to the World Cup quarter-final loss to Germany.
Deschamps’ side next meet the Sweden of PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Marseille on Tuesday.
In other friendlies, Keisuke Honda provided the thrust as Japan overpowered Honduras 6-0 to relieve some of the pressure on coach Javier Aguirre.
Honda scored once, set up three more and was by far Japan’s most dangerous player in a lopsided game between two teams who flopped badly at the World Cup in Brazil earlier this year.
Japan, who will bid to defend their Asian Cup title in Australia, take on the tournament host Socceroos in Osaka on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Uruguay drew a 3-3 thriller at home against Cost Rica, South Korea edged Jordan in a 1-0 away victory and China managed a 1-1 scoreline against visiting New Zealand.

Four-time NBA all-star DeMarcus Cousins arrived in Taiwan with his family early yesterday to finish his renewed contract with the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League. Cousins initially played a four-game contract with the Leopards in January. On March 18, the Taoyuan-based team announced that Cousins had renewed his contract. “Hi what’s up Leopard fans, I’m back. I’m excited to be back and can’t wait to join the team,” Cousins said in a video posted on the Leopard’s Facebook page. “Most of all, can’t wait to see you guys, the fans, next weekend. Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Nicknamed the “judo heartthrob” in Taiwan, the Olympic silver-medalist missed out on his first Asian Championships gold when he lost to Japanese judoka Taiki Nakamura in the finals. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). He
Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
