Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist scored power-play goals 55 seconds apart in the second period as the Pittsburgh Penguins gave the New York Islanders their first loss of the season, beating them 3-1 on Saturday.
The Islanders (4-1) had been the Eastern Conference’s last unbeaten team.
Hornqvist, who assisted on Malkin’s goal, added an empty-net tally with 1 minute, 20 seconds left to seal the Penguins’ win. Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby had two assists, including the 500th of his career.

Vancouver’s Steven Stamkos scored two goals and added an assist, while Ben Bishop made 30 saves as the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Canucks 4-2 for their first loss of the season.
Ryan Callahan added a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay, while Alex Killhorn also scored. Ondrej Palat had two assists.
Chris Higgins and Alexander Edler scored for Vancouver, who had 20 saves from backup goaltender Eddie Lack in his first start. The Canucks were the last NHL team to lose this season.
The Canucks had a home sellout streak ended at 474 games. The previous non-sellout in Vancouver was on Nov. 12, 2002.
In Newark, New Jersey, Logan Couture had a goal and two assists, while Antti Niemi made 35 saves as the San Jose Sharks topped the Devils 4-2.
Joe Pavelski added a goal and an assist, while Joe Thornton iced the game with an empty-net goal — his 1,200th NHL point — as the Sharks won for the fourth time in five games.
They have earned nine of 10 points, losing only in a shootout to the Islanders.
Patrick Marleau added a goal for Sharks.
The Boston Bruins blanked the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 after Niklas Svedberg made 32 saves for his first NHL shutout.
It was just the third career start for Svedberg, who replaced Tuukka Rask in the third period of Boston’s loss against Montreal on Thursday.
Dougie Hamilton, Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Carl Soderberg scored for the Bruins (3-4). All four goals came at even strength and three were scored against the Buffalo’s top line.
In other games, Washington scored on all three shots in a shootout as the Capitals edged the Panthers 1-0, Henrik Zetterberg scored an overtime goal to give the Detroit Red Wings a 1-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.
The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2, the Chicago Blackhawks earned a 2-1 overtime win over the Nashville Predators, the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Dallas Stars 6-5 in overtime and the St Louis Blues trounced the Arizona Coyotes 6-1.
