Boston’s David Krejci and Reilly Smith scored in regulation and again in the shootout as the Bruins beat Detroit 3-2 on Wednesday.
The Bruins outshot Detroit 35-18 in regulation, but were consistently repelled by Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard, who also made three key saves in overtime. However, he could not stop Krejci and Smith in the shootout, while neither Gustav Nyquist nor Andrej Nestrasil could get their shots in for the Red Wings.
Nyquist tied the score at 2:56 of the third period, snapping a wrist shot past Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask to end Detroit’s streak of nine scoreless power plays. Tomas Tatar also scored for the Red Wings.
Elsewhere, Calgary goalie Jonas Hiller made 49 saves to help the Flames win 2-1 at Chicago.
Mikael Backlund scored the winner at 4:35 of overtime, while Dennis Wideman also scored for the Flames.
The Blackhawks controlled the action for much of the night, enjoying a 50-18 advantage in shots on goal, but Hiller was outstanding.
Andrew Shaw scored in the third for Chicago.
Arizona’s Mikkel Boedker scored two of three goals in the third period and added an assist to help the Coyotes outlast winless Edmonton 7-4.
Boedker scored in the first period and gave Arizona a two-goal lead midway through the third. He added an empty-net goal for his first career hat-trick.
Connor Murphy, Kyle Chipchura, Rob Klinkhammer and Martin Erat also scored for the Coyotes, who had 13 players with at least one point.
Taylor Hall had two goals, and Marc Arcobello and Mark Fayne each scored for the Oliers.
Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The

He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
