Fifth-seeded Varvara Lepchenko of the US advanced to the second round of the Korea Open by beating Olivia Rogowska of Australia 6-1, 6-2 on Monday.
Lepchenko converted all three break points in first set at Olympic Park Tennis Center. She is next to face Han Na-lae of South Korea, who beat Su Jeong-jang 7-6 (7/5), 4-6, 6-3.

Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic rallied from a set down to beat US teenager Madison Keys 6-7 (6/4), 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the Pan Pacific Open yesterday.
The seventh-seeded Safarova saved eight of 10 break points to oust the unseeded Keys and advance to the second round, where she is to face wild-card Belinda Bencic of Switzerland, who overpowered Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-0 in 1 hour, 7 minutes.
Top-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany had a first-round bye as did second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, who won the event in 2010.
