The Topco Scientific Falcons swept their weekend series against Taitung’s Chii Lih Coral by winning the finale at the Taitung County Baseball Stadium 6-4 to up their season record to an even 4-4.
The rain-shortened match that lasted only six innings saw the Coral drawing first blood with runs in the first and the fourth to give starter Chuan Chi a 2-0 lead through five innings of play, but the Falcons rallied for six runs in the game-turning sixth to take a 6-2 lead and then held on in the bottom of the inning, despite giving up two runs, to escape with a series-sweeping win.
Taking the win was Liu Hen-hsiao, while Chuan was tagged with the loss in a game where Chii Lih outhit the Falcons 10-5.
TAIWAN COOP 2, VEETIME 1
Taiwan Cooperative Bank broke a 1-1 tie with a go-ahead run in the top of the ninth against Veetime and held on to win 2-1 at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium yesterday afternoon.
The win not only evened the Bankers’ series record against Veetime to 1-1, but it also saw them ascend to the top of the standings with a league-best 5-3 record.
Tang Chia-chun picked up the narrow win by tossing a scoreless eighth, with closer Armando Gabino backing him up by pitching a scoreless ninth for the save.
