Taiwan’s Chan Yung-jan progressed to the quarter-finals of the doubles at a rain-hit Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, while fellow Taiwanese Hsieh Su-wei, Chuang Chia-jung and Chan Chin-wei will have to wait at least another day to complete their first-round matches.
No. 4 seeds Chan Yung-jan and Zheng Saisai of China cruised past Turkish duo Cagla Buyukakcay and Pemra Ozgen 6-0, 6-1 in 45 minutes in one of only three matches to be completed.
Third seeds Hsieh and Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia were leading Chuang and Rika Fujiwara of Japan 6-3, 4-4 when their match was suspended due to the rain, while Chan Chin-wei and Xu Yi-fan of China were leading Japanese pairing Erika Sema and Yurika Sema 6-3, 3-2.
Hsieh is to due to face her doubles partner Gajdosova in the first round of the singles today, while Chan Yung-jan has been drawn against Croatia’s Donna Vekic.
