The Taiwan Mobile Cloud Leopards racked up their second win in as many days last night with a 74-65 win over Kinmen Kaoliang at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology Gymnasium in Greater Taichung to achieve a perfect 2-0 record in the pre-season.
Front-court tandem Chang Yu-lin and Chang Rong-hsuan had a huge day at the office for the Leopards from the get-go with 11 points apiece in the opening frame to help their club grab a surprising 28-17 advantage against the Distillers.
However, the best of Kinmen would return the favor with Chen Ching-huan’s nine-point effort leading the way in a dominant second quarter to keep it down to a four-point lead for the Leopards.
Luke Nevill made sure Chang Yu-lin and Chang Rong-hsuan would not get all the attention with nine points of his own in an evenly fought third quarter to keep the Leopards lead at six, before teaming up with Chang Yu-lin for an even dozen in the fourth to seal the deal.
The Australian import, who enjoyed a brilliant college career in the US, will likely keep his job with the Leopards following a solid showing in the Taiwan Strait Tournament and the two pre-season games.
Four players scored in double digits for the victorious Leopards, headed by Nevill’s game-high 23 points, while Chen Ching-huan’s team-high 20 points represented nearly a third of the Distillers’ total offense, with Song Yu-hsuan and Aaron Pettway also chipping in with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Taiwan Beer 79, Luxgens 77
Taiwan Beer erupted for 27 third-quarter points to take a seemingly comfortable 62-48 lead and held off an all-out rally by the Yulon Luxgens in the fourth quarter to escape with a narrow 79-77 win in Greater Taichung last night.
