Tampa Bay right-hander Alex Cobb was taken off the field on a stretcher on Saturday, while Freddie Freeman’s bases-loaded single capped a two-run rally in the ninth inning that lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 6-5 win over the San Francisco Giants.

Cobb was hit on the right ear by a line drive off the bat of Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer in the fifth inning of the Rays’ 5-3 American League win over the Royals.

The Rays announced that Cobb, who remained conscious the whole time, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St Petersburg for further examination. Rays spokesman Rick Vaughn later said all tests were normal and that Cobb suffered a mild concussion.

Luke Scott, Matt Joyce and Evan Longoria homered for the Rays, who had lost five of six.

Joyce hit a solo homer off Jeremy Guthrie (7-4) in the fifth that put the Rays up 4-2.

At Atlanta, B.J. Upton hit two homers off Chad Gaudin, but the National League East-leading Braves trailed 5-4 entering the ninth, before Romo (3-3) walked pinch-hitter Evan Gattis, who was replaced by pinch-runner Reed Johnson, with one out.

Andrelton Simmons followed with a grounder that skipped past third baseman Joaquin Arias for an error, putting runners on first and second.

Jason Heyward followed with a liner that fell in front of left fielder Andres Torres, loading the bases.

Justin Upton worked a walk to tie it and Freeman came through with the game-winning single to right field.

In the AL, Mike Carp and Jonny Gomes homered to back an effective pitching performance by John Lackey as the Boston Red Sox beat the Orioles 5-4 to end a five-game losing streak in Baltimore.

Boston leads Baltimore by 2.5 games in the AL East.

Lackey (4-5) gave up two runs, seven hits and a walk in seven innings to improve to 12-4 against the Orioles.

Toronto’s Adam Lind and Colby Rasmus both hit two-run homers as the Blue Jays won their fourth game in a row, beating the Texas Rangers 6-1.

Erick Aybar homered and drove in two runs for Anaheim, and Albert Pujols added two more RBIs in the Angels’ 6-2 victory over the Yankees that sent New York to their fifth straight defeat.

Tommy Hanson (4-2) recorded a season-high eight strikeouts while allowing just five hits into the seventh inning for the Angels.

Brett Gardner had an RBI triple for the Yankees, who matched their worst losing streak of the season. Mark Teixeira also left in the fourth inning with an aggravated right wrist.

In other AL games, the Houston Astros edged the Chicago White Sox 4-3, the Seattle Mariners blanked the Oakland Athletics 4-0 and the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 6-3. The Washington Nationals beat the Cleveland Indians 7-6 in the only interleague game.

In the NL, Juan Uribe singled home Andre Ethier in the top of the 11th inning to rally the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, while Scott Feldman allowed just two hits in seven innings and Starlin Castro hit a two-run double in a three-run eighth inning that lifted the Chicago Cubs clear of New York Mets 5-2.

The Milwaukee Brewers shut out the Cincinnati Reds 6-0, the Colorado Rockies downed the Philadelphia Phillies 10-5, the St Louis Cardinals beat the Florida Marlins 13-7 and the San Diego Padres were 6-4 winners over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
