The Houston Rockets cruised past the cold-shooting Cleveland Cavaliers 116-78 on Friday night at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, with Jeremy Lin scoring four points and six assists for Houston in just 20 minutes of play.
The Houston Rockets will then confront their archrivals, the San Antonio Spurs, the Indiana Pacers, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Clippers, moving toward the playoffs.
The Cavaliers were routed because star point guard Kyrie Irving missed the game. Irving, who has been named the recipient of the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy as the 2011-2012 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Award, reportedly may miss the rest of the season with a left shoulder sprain after missing six games for the Cavaliers. Irving, 20, is averaging 23 points, 5.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game this season.

However, the Rockets reached 56.4 percent shooting in the first half of the game, with 42.86 percent from three-point range (six of 14). New York clinched a playoff berth as Carmelo Anthony scored 37 points and Kenyon Martin added 19 points and 11 rebounds in the Knicks’ 99-94 win over the Toronto Raptors.
The defeat was a double blow for Toronto, who lost for the 11th time in 15 games and saw forward Rudy Gay leave in the second with a sore back. He did not return.
Alan Anderson scored a career-high 35 points, DeMar DeRozan had 18 and Jonas Valanciunas 10 for the Raptors.
San Antonio’s Tony Parker had 22 points in his return from an eight-game absence and Tim Duncan added 19 points and 16 rebounds as the Spurs sent the Utah Jazz to their third straight loss 104-97.

Revelations of positive doping tests for nearly two dozen Chinese swimmers that went unpunished sparked an intense flurry of accusations and legal threats between the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the head of the US drug-fighting organization, who has long been one of WADA’s fiercest critics. WADA on Saturday said it was turning to legal counsel to address a statement released by US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) CEO Travis Tygart, who said WADA and anti-doping authorities in China swept positive tests “under the carpet by failing to fairly and evenly follow the global rules that apply to everyone else in the world.” The
Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei on Saturday won silver in the men’s under-60kg category at the Asian Judo Championships in Hong Kong. Yang defeated three opponents on Saturday to reach the final after receiving a bye through the round of 32. He first topped Laotian Soukphaxay Sithisane in the round of 16 with two seoi nage (over-the-shoulder throws), then ousted Indian Vijay Kumar Yadav in the quarter-finals with his signature ude hishigi sankaku gatame (triangular armlock). Rafael Nadal on Wednesday said the upcoming French Open would be the moment to “give everything and die” on the court after his comeback from injury in Barcelona was curtailed by Alex de Minaur. The 22-time Grand Slam title winner, back playing this week after three months on the sidelines, battled well, but eventually crumbled 7-5, 6-1 against the world No. 11 from Australia in the second round. Nadal, 37, who missed virtually all of last season, is hoping to compete at the French Open next month where he is the record 14-time champion. The Spaniard said the clash with De Minaur was
