Penguins down Bruins to win their ninth straight game

The Pittsburgh Penguins won their ninth straight game on Sunday as Sidney Crosby scored his 13th goal and Tomas Vokoun stopped 31 shots in a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins.

Joe Vitale added his first goal in more than a year for the Penguins, who have beaten the Bruins five consecutive times.

Tyler Seguin scored his 10th goal for Boston, while Tuukka Rask made 16 saves.

Pittsburgh, who moved into first place in the Eastern Conference — two points ahead of Montreal — have let in just five goals in five games.

Ottawa’s Jakob Silfverberg scored twice to lead the Senators to a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

Guillaume Latendresse and Kyle Turris added goals for the Senators, who got 25 saves from Robin Lehner.

LONE GOAL

Zach Bogosian scored the lone goal for the Jets, while Ondrej Pavelec made 38 saves.

In Washington, Troy Brouwer had a goal and an assist in the second period of the Capitals’ 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Jason Chimera added his first regular-season goal in nearly a year for the Capitals, who broke out of an offensive slump in which they had scored only seven times in five games — losing four.

Alex Ovechkin got the Capitals going with his 350th NHL goal, scored only 19 seconds in, while Marcus Johansson and Matthieu Perrault also had a goal and an assist each.

Cody Hodgson scored twice for the Sabres and Brian Flynn also added a goal.

OILERS WIN

Jordan Eberle had a goal and assist in Edmonton as the Oilers edged the Nashville Predators 3-2.

Magnus Paajarvi and Lennart Petrell also scored for the Oilers, who have won three of their past four games.

Shea Weber and Roman Josi scored the goals for the Predators.
