National Taiwan Sport University bounced back from a second-half collapse in a loss to Fu Jen Catholic University the night before with a 77-61 win over Shih Hsing University at Fu Jen Catholic University in New Taipei City yesterday to keep their hopes of making the UBA championship’s last four alive.
Following the disheartening defeat at the hands of a tenacious Fu Jen attack that virtually chased National Sport off the court on Wednesday evening, skipper Mai Tsai-chen held a closed-door meeting to “go over” their mistakes in the game.
The get-together proved effective as National Sport played four solid quarters in their must-win against Shih Hsing with five different players scoring in double-digits to garner a victory that kept their title hopes alive.
“We just wanted to find out what went wrong for us and each player took their turn talking about it in front of the team,” Mai said after yesterday’s gutsy victory.
National Sport will have to repeat their success at least two more times to reach this year’s Final Four as they take on defending champs National Taiwan University of the Arts and perennial powerhouse National Taiwan Normal University tomorrow and on Sunday respectively.
In other games yesterday, Shoufu University defeated National Kaohsiung Normal University 72-63; I-Shou University beat Mingdao University 83-73; and Chinese Culture University won 70-56 against Fu Jen Catholic University.
