“I didn’t pressure myself at all, I just went onto court and was thinking that ‘this is my time, I have to do it and if I get a chance I have to use that chance.’”

Taiwan’s Chan Yung-jan made it through to the main draw of the Australian Open by beating China’s Duan Ying-ying 6-3, 6-1 in their women’s qualifying clash in Melbourne yesterday. Chan has been in impressive form, not dropping a set in three matches and only losing 10 games in reaching the first round of the main draw at the first Grand Slam of the season.
The 23-year-old was the only Taiwanese player to make it through qualifying though, male compatriots Jimmy Wang, Chen Ti and Yang Tsung-hua all failing in their bids.
