Annika Sorenstam, one of the most successful female golfers in history, will arrive in Taipei for the first time on Tuesday to compete in an annual charity tournament.

Swedish hall-of-famer Sorenstam, who will be playing in Taiwan’s “Swinging Skirts” tournament, is scheduled to attend a pre-event press briefing shortly after her arrival, the organizers said.

World No. 1 Yani Tseng, along with US duo Natalie Gulbis and Paula Creamer, Choi Na-yeon of South Korea and Suzann Pettersen of Norway are all expected to attend the press briefing.

There will be a charity skins game on Thursday at the Miramar Golf and Country Club in Linkou, New Taipei City, which will be followed by a 54-hole invitational featuring 95 players from Friday to Sunday, according to the organizers.

The tournament, which has a total purse of US$1.01 million this year, half of which will be donated to charity, has become an official leg for both the Taiwan Ladies Professional Golf Association and the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Tour.

Swinging Skirts is a private organization made up of both men and women amateur golfers, although professional players are also invited to attend.

Its members wear skirts or kilts when they play, and all competitors, caddies and course referees are expected to do the same during the tournament.
