Day 4 of the 2012 Hualien Probation Cup Basketball Tournament continued with Bank of Taiwan overwhelming Taiwan Beer 77-65 at the Hualien County Sports Complex yesterday afternoon.
Tempers flared in this supposedly easy victory for the Brew Crew as Lee Bing-hong took a swing at Bankers point man Chien Ming-fu after being called for offensive charge on a seemingly clean play in the fourth quarter.
Several players quickly closed in on the two before things got out of hand in a full-blown brawl that lasted over three minutes.
After all but four of the Taiwan Beer players had been ejected from the game for fighting and the Bankers had protested at Chien’s ejection, the game finally resumed with Taiwan Beer playing with only four players on the floor against five Bankers in an unusual win for Bank of Taiwan.
“It’s really unfortunate to see the players fight like that, we’ll need to do a better job educating our players,” Bankers skipper Wei Chen-ming said after the game.
His counterpart Liu Jia-fa was also ejected from the game for arguing with the referees during the game.
The Bankers had the game all but won with a comfortable 62-46 lead after three quarters of play with a terrific showing by veteran forwards Chen Hsuen-hsiang and Hsu Chih-chiang.
Hsu’s 34 combined points provided a consistent offensive threat to the men in the green uniforms throughout the game.
Luxgens 86, Kinmen Liquor 70
The Yulon Luxgens dealt winless Kinmen Liquor their fourth straight defeat in the first game in Hualien yesterday afternoon, downing the Distillers 86-70 to claim their second victory in as many days.
Chou Shih-yuan played his best game of the tournament by far, netting a game-high 25 for the Luxgens, who started the five-day competition with back-to-back losses before winning two in a row to even their record at 2-2.
Things look rather depressing for Kinmen Liquor head coach Luo Tien-jin, whose troops are expected to have a tough season ahead in an obvious rebuilding year.
In other play yesterday, it was:
‧ Pure Youth 96, Tigers 78
‧ Leopards 93, USA 64
