PSG sign Lucas Moura

Paris Saint-Germain announced on Wednesday that an agreement has been reached with Sao Paulo to sign Brazilian international midfielder Lucas Moura in January. The French capital giants had insisted that their summer spending was over after the arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Ezequiel Lavezzi, but sporting director Leonardo has struck a deal that will see the midfielder, who turns 20 this month, move to the Parc des Princes on a four-and-a-half-year deal. By doing so, they have beaten off competition from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid. “Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo FC have reached today an agreement for the definitive transfer of Lucas Rodriguez Moura Da Silva,” a statement said on the club’s Web site. “By signing a young talent of the quality of Lucas Rodriguez Moura Da Silva, Paris Saint-Germain is already preparing the future.”

PSG to trade Bisevac

Olympique Lyonnais coach Remi Garde confirmed on Wednesday that his club are in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain that could lead to a swap deal involving Anthony Reveillere and Milan Bisevac. The French capital club are keen to offload Serbian international defender Bisevac, who currently occupies one of the four places allowed for non-EU players. PSG are interested in a swap deal that would see experienced France international right-back Reveillere move to the Parc des Princes.

SPAIN

Milan get Zapata on loan

Spanish second tier club Villarreal on Wednesday announced an agreement with AC Milan that will see Colombian international defender Cristian Zapata move to the Italian giants on a season-long loan. The Colombian defender, 25, will return to Serie A after leaving Udinese for the Yellow Submarine last summer. The 15-time capped defender moved to Villarreal on a five-year deal for a reported 8.5 million euros (US$10.5 million). However, Villarreal were relegated from La Liga on the final day of last season. Milan have an option to sign Zapata permanently next summer for a fee between 5 and 6 million euros.

ENGLAND

No deal yet on Van Persie

Manchester United are trying to sign Dutch international striker Robin van Persie from Premier League rivals Arsenal, manager Alex Ferguson said. “We have made a bid,” Ferguson told his club’s Web site. “We’re trying our best but there’s no progress at this moment in time. We’re not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal. I don’t know what their thoughts are because they’re not giving anything away.” Van Persie announced in July that he would not be extending his contract with the Londoners because he was unhappy with the direction they were taking.

Barcelona win shootout

Manchester United and Barcelona played out a disappointing 0-0 draw in a pre-season friendly in Gothenburg on Wednesday. The Catalan side were mostly on top, spurred on by Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, but created few real goal-scoring opportunities. The best chance of the match fell to Manchester United, with a penalty just before halftime, but Wayne Rooney saw his effort parried by Victor Valdes and he was then well off the target with his follow-up. The game ended with a brief penalty shoot-out that Barcelona won 2-0.
