South Korea’s Mo Joong-kyung took the lead on the second day of the inaugural Volvik Hildesheim Open J Golf Series yesterday after another flawless round of four-under-par 68.
The 40-year-old, whose day two total stands at 136, is hopeful he can win his first Asian Tour title on home soil at the US$300,000 event, which is jointly sanctioned with the Korean Golf Tour.
Fellow countryman Kim Dae-hyun added a 70 to his opening 67 to take second place, while Thailand’s Pariya Juhnasavadik and Korean Park Boo-won shared third place on 138.
Javi Colomo of Spain, making his Asian Tour debut, returned with a 70 to share fifth place with Koreans Lee In-woo and Lee Sang-hee on 139.
Mo, who won the last of his two Asian Tours in 2008 in Thailand, started on the back-nine par four 10th and got his first birdie on the 16th before reaching the turn in 35.
He marked his card with two more birdies on the first and second holes, before another birdie on the seventh hole ensured he stayed ahead of the pack.
Second-placed Kim mixed four birdies against two bogeys.
Kao Shang-hun of Taiwan carded 77 in the first round and 76 in yesterday’s second round, and failed to make the cut.
