Rays rally late to defeat New York Yankees 4-1

Drew Stubbs singled off Brewers closer John Axford (0-2) with two outs, and Votto lined a ball over the glove of the second baseman to score Stubbs from first. Brandon Phillips then hit a single, driving in Votto.

Cincinnati’s Aroldis Chapman (3-0) pitched the eighth for the win and after Sean Marshall gave up a homer and two two-out singles.

He was replaced by Logan Ondrusek, who loaded the bases, but got a pop out to earn his first save.

It was the 1,500th major league victory for Reds manager Dusty Baker.

ROCKIES 6, PADRES 2

In San Diego, California, Christian Friedrich pitched six solid innings to win his major league debut as Colorado ended a five-game losing skid by beating San Diego.

Friedrich (1-0) held San Diego to one earned run, while striking out seven and walking only one.

Jason Giambi and Wilin Rosario hit RBI doubles off the top of the fences for the Rockies, who got at least one hit from each batter.

Colorado scored four unearned runs in the sixth against Anthony Bass (1-4) after shortstop Andy Parrino committed a fielding error with one out.
