A Taiwanese teenager clinched gold in the under-59kg category at the ninth World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Egypt yesterday in a comeback win against a South Korean competitor.
Wang Ping-shun won four straight matches earlier in the day to advance to the final against -Hyeok Jae-goh of South Korea, but after the first two rounds of the final, Wang was trailing 0-6.
Wang scored three straight points with just seven seconds remaining in the third round.
He finished the bout 8-6 to win in the under-59kg category, snagging Taiwan’s first gold at the event since Sung Yu-chi won in 1998 in Barcelona, Spain.
