This week’s Super Basketball League (SBL) Player of the Week honor went to the Dacin Tigers’ Wang Chih-chuin, who beat out Bank of Taiwan’s Lin Rei-cuen and Pure Youth Construction’s Chen Hsin-an by a wide margin with an outstanding effort to land the prestigious weekly award.
The Tigers’ 180cm field general, who holds the distinction as the league’s first player to record a triple-double performance in a single game, averaged 18 points, three assists and two steals in the two games that he played last weekend, including brilliant 10-for-19 shooting from behind the three-point line to give the previously anemic Tiger offense a much-needed boost.
It was his four-point play in the showdown against Taiwan Beer that helped the Tigers upset the defending champs in a valiant come-from-behind win.
“We really needed someone to step up to the plate during our slump and I’m glad I was able to be that person,” Wang said upon learning of his selection for the weekly honor.
The Tigers had lost three straight and seven of their past eight before winning back-to-back games for the first time in six weeks.
“[Wang] has really been a leader for us by setting a good example for our younger guys, especially when we weren’t playing as well as we could,” Rookie head coach Huang Wan-long said of the Dacin team captain.
Wang and the rest of the Tiger pack will try to extend their winning streak to five with three big games this weekend, starting with tonight’s contest versus Kinmen Kaoliang at the Sinjhuang Sports Complex in New Taipei City before tomorrow’s rematch against Taiwan Beer and Sunday’s afternoon affair with Bank of Taiwan.
