Washington goaltender Tomas Vokoun haunted his former team Florida with a 42-save shutout as the Capitals reclaimed first place in the Southeast Division with a 4-0 win over the Panthers on Tuesday.
Florida outshot the home team 42-24, but could not find a way past Vokoun, who held them scoreless for the second time this season after having played for the Panthers from 2007 to last year before being acquired by Washington in the off-season.
Alexander Ovechkin scored twice as the Capitals netted two goals in the first two periods to get the upper hand against their division rivals.

“We definitely want to win our division and that is what we set our goal as,” Vokoun told reporters. “It’s not going to be easy. Every game is going to be tough.”
Florida had taken over the Southeast lead with a win over Washington last week, but have now fallen a point behind the Capitals.
The Panthers are trying to reach their first postseason since the 1999-2000 season. Washington have reassumed their dominant role as they have captured the last four division titles.
Mathieu Perreault got the home team off to a fast start with a goal 13 seconds into the game before Ovechkin padded the lead to 2-0 midway through the opening period.
Jason Chimera scored a minute into the second and Ovechkin tallied again 10 minutes later to put the game away.
“They are a good team and by no means does this mean the division is wrapped up,” said Washington’s Brooks Laich, who played despite leaving his previous game with a knee injury. “It was an important hockey game for us.”
Scott Clemmensen had 20 saves for the Panthers in the defeat. The two teams will meet again on Friday next week.

US track and field athletes have about four dozen pieces to choose from when assembling their uniforms at the Olympics. The one grabbing the most attention is a high-cut leotard that barely covers the bikini line and has triggered debate between those who think it is sexist and others who say they do not need the Internet to make sure they have good uniforms. Among those critical or laughing at the uniforms included Paralympian Femita Ayanbeku, sprinter Britton Wilson and even athletes from other countries such as Britain’s Abigail Irozuru, who wrote on social media: “Was ANY female athlete consulted in

Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson was left embarrassed after a foul-mouthed response to ironic cheers from spectators after a triple bogey at Augusta National on Friday. Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, missed the cut after his three-over-par round of 75 left him on seven-over 151 for 36 holes, his six on the par-three 12th playing a big role in his downfall. Television footage showed Johnson reacting to sarcastic cheers and applause when he tapped in for the triple bogey by yelling: “Oh fuck off.” Such a response would be considered bad form in any golf tournament, but is particularly out of keeping
