Brazilian leftback Maxwell looks set to sign for French Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain after the club reached an agreement with his present side Barcelona over the transfer on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old was due in Paris to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical with PSG.
“After reaching agreement in principle with PSG over the transfer of Maxwell, the player will fly to Paris today [Wednesday] to sort out the final details of the contract,” a Barcelona statement said. “Once these details are ironed out, he will undergo a medical and finalize his transfer.”
Earlier Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola had admitted that the former Ajax and Inter player had sought a move away after being frozen out by Frenchman Eric Abidal and another Brazilian, Adriano.
“He is not happy here, simply because he has not had the playing time he would have liked,” Guardiola said. “If he does leave, we wish him good luck, he is an exemplary person.”
