Popular US sports Web site “Bleacher Report” has selected world No. 1 woman golfer Yani Tseng of Taiwan as one of the world’s top 50 female athletes.
Tseng was ranked 30th on the Bleacher Report’s list of the all-time top 50 female athletes and the Web site described her as having recently emerged as a headline grabber.
A commented posted on the site said it was “astonishing,” however, how little attention Tseng’s achievements have earned her in the US’ 24-hour sports culture.
“She’s won FIVE MAJORS and she’s only 22. Her personality is absolutely delightful. In 10 years let’s see where she is on a comparable list, and whether any in the MSM [mainstream media] know her name at that point,” the comment said.
Tseng successfully defended her Women’s British Open title late last month, making her the first player to ever win the major event twice in a row since it was named an official LPGA major in 2001.
It was her 17th worldwide win and her seventh this year. She is the youngest player ever to win five majors on either the men’s or women’s circuits.
